Some Questions Answered

Compiled by the Surrey Healing Association.

What is Healing?

The word Healing covers many titles.  It has been called energy healing, laying on hands, natural or spiritual healing and has been practised for hundreds of years.  It is the transfer of a natural energy source generally referred to as ‘Universal Energy’ to a patient by a therapist.

It is non-invasive, no medicines or drugs are used and is a complimentary therapy.  The therapists objective is to help the patient to relax and to relieve tension.

How do Healers Work?

Healers will either work from couches, chairs or both.  Depending on where healing takes place and how the healer works, they will either ask you to sit on a chair, or to lay on a couch.  If you as the patient would rather sit on a chair, that decision is yours.

No clothing needs to be removed, except perhaps in the winter if you are wearing a coat, hat, scarf or gloves, the healer may ask you to remove these for your own comfort.

What do I do and will I feel anything?

We will ask you to try to relax, although it is accepted you may be too anxious or tense from your circumstances, and to have an open mind.  A positive attitude will help the healing process.

You may feel a sensation of heat or coldness from the therapists hands, or even a slight tingling.  You may not feel anything. there are no hard and fast rules on what you should feel.  Although you are likely to experience a feeling of peace and calm come over you as the treatment progresses.

At the end of the session you will hopefully be relieved of tension, feel more relaxed and have an easing of pain.  Seven out of ten patients say they have a very good nights sleep.

How long should I have Healing?

Sometimes just one treatment is sufficient, but it is often progressive and the more regular you have it the more effective it can be, like any course of treatment.  So do not become discouraged if early results are not experienced.  Sometimes long running conditions take a while to reverse.  It is rare for anyone to attend on a regular basis without feeling some benefit.

We encourage patients to attend four Saturdays – ideally consecutively so patient and healer can assess an improvement physically and/ or spiritually.

Will Healing cure me and should I tell my Doctor?

No person, doctor or therapist can guarantee to cure illness, and our Code of Conduct forbids us to claim that a cure can be effected or to attempt a diagnosis.

Healing is complementary to the treatment provided by your Doctor, it is NOT an alternative.  Two further elements of the Code of Conduct relate specifically to the relationship between you and your Doctor.

Tell your Doctor you are receiving Healing if you wish.  A growing number of Doctors nowadays refer their patients to a Healer and some even have Healing Therapists.

Can Healing help the terminal ill?

Yes.  Pain is often alleviated and for many a sense of peace and tranquility is felt.  The fear of death felt by some may also be dispelled.

Are records or personal details of patients kept?

Our Code of Conduct and Professional Indemnity Insurance demand that we do so.  A brief account of your condition and a short report can be made.  These records are regarded as strictly confidential and the information is accessible only to the therapist and patient.
